Work to upgrade Arua Air Field to International standards has begun. A 1.5 billion shillings terminal with a capacity of 200 passengers is already under construction.
Wenseslaus Rama Makuza the managing director Civil Aviation Authority says that the construction of the terminal is expected to be completed within eight months.
He says that when the terminal is completed they will start expanding the runway, from 30 to 45 meters wide to accommodate bigger planes.
He says that government has already designated the airfield as an entry and exit port for all international flights second to Entebbe international airport.

Makuza has appealed to the leadership in Arua district to mobilize residents around the airfield to embrace the expansion plan by selling land to the CAA.
Arua district leaders have welcomed the expansion of the airfield to International standards.
Sabo Kamilo Arua district vice chairperson says apart from boosting international trade the upgrading of the airfield will boost economic development of Arua district.

Last year, Arua Air Field registered more than 10,000 flights.
