Thugs Raid MTN Service Center in Kumi

Police in Kumi are hunting for two armed thugs who made a daring daytime robbery on an MTN service center, which is less than 50 meters from Kumi Central Police Station.

The thugs who were armed with a pistol and an AK47 assault riffle yesterday raided Kumi MTN service center at about 2.p.m and robbed 6.5 million shillings.

Hassan Nyene, the Mideastern Police Spokesperson, says the thugs who had earlier robbed a vehicle from an NGO, Build Africa, entered the service center disguised as customers.

Nyene says the thugs later put the unsuspecting staff of MTN at gunpoint and took off with 6.5 million shillings and air time worth 500,000.vehicle shillings.

He says the thugs drove off and abandoned the getaway vehicle some 10 kilometers in Ongino Sub-county and vanished in the bush.

Sarah Ongole, the Program Manager of Build Africa says the thugs entered their offices at 2:30 p.m. and put the workers at gunpoint before ordering them to surrender their phones.

She says the thugs later locked the workers in one of the rooms and took off with a company vehicle which was later recovered by the police.
