Izima Kaziba, a councilor at Malongo Sub County in Mayuge district has survived lynching for stealing a mobile phone.
Trouble for Kaziba started when Police arrested his girl friend with the mobile phone that disappeared, from the office of Malongo sub county chief in June this year.
The girl, who Police has declined to identify, led Police to Kaziba, who she claimed bought her the phone.
Immediately after his arrest a charged mob tried to lynch Kaziba, forcing the Police to whisk him away to save his life.
James Ejangu, the Mayuge Acting District Police commander says that Alex Nyende the Malongo sub county chief in June this year reported the theft of his mobile.
He says that Police has been tracking the phone until Kaziba's girl friend was last week found in possession of the stolen phone.
He says that councilor Kaziba is to be charged with theft when investigations are complete.
Alex Nyende, the sub county chief says that the phone was stolen together with a coat from his office.
Nyende however says that he did not suspect that any of councilors was behind theft.
Kaziba has refused to plead guilty to the theft saying that he bought the phone from a friend who is at large and donated it to his girlfriend.
