Rioters Shot Dead in Mpigi

Three people including the bursar of Lukale Secondary School in Butambala were killed on Friday in riots in Mpigi.
Faisal Bukenya, the bursar Lukale Secondary school was hit by a stray bullet, while Garage Mugerwa a casual laborer and Jamil were amongst the protestors.
The three were killed when Military Police and UPDF soldiers who were deployed to quell down the riots shot in the air to disperse the protestors.
The rioters who erected barricades and lit tires in the roads engaged the soldiers and military Police in running battles for the whole day.
Rioters attempted to attack government vehicles going through the Mpigi town.
Fred Milondo, the OC CID Mpigi said the rioters who had started destroying property were contained by the Military Police and Army deployment.
Milondo condemned the act of stoning both government and civilian cars without cause.
He attributed the damage to thugs whose intentions are to vandalize people's property.
He urged bodaboda cyclists to desist from being used as icons of violence.
Milondo said security would be stepped up to deter the rioters in Mpigi.
