Kamwenge Suffers Drugs Stock Out, as Cholera Cases Increase

Health
Kamwenge is running out of drugs to treat cholera patients as the epidemic spreads to other areas in the district.

Dr Vincent Mubangizi, the District Medical Officer Kamwenge says that more than 40 people have been admitted to various health centers in the past 24-hours.

He says that unless Ministry of Health disburses drugs to the district immediately it may become difficult to handle new cases of cholera as the current stock is running out.

Dr Mubangizi however says that half of the people who were admitted at Bukurungu Isolation center, Ntara and Mahyoro health centers have been discharged after receiving treatment.

He says that one person has died bringing to four, the number of people killed by cholera in Kamwenge district, since the disease broke out in the district a week ago.

Mubangizi says that sample taken from four people to Mbarara have tested positive for cholera.

He says that Mahyoro Sub County, which is located on the shores of Lake George, is most vulnerable to the epidemic outbreak because of poor hygiene and sanitation.
