Over 30 Suspects Criminal Suspects Arrested in Lira

Crime
Over 30 criminal suspects have been arrested in Lira town in a joint operation conducted by Police and Rapid Response Unit operatives.

20 of the suspects were picked up yesterday morning in a raid on Barogole and Cuk-Atat areas.

10 other suspects were picked up on Tuesday and Wednesday this week in operations, which were conducted in popular suburbs of Lira town.

The operations stem from the increased attacks on residents by suspected thugs over the past months.

Most of the suspects who are being held at Lira Central Police stations were found smoking cannabis a banned substance.

Alex Omwaa, the Commanding officer in charge of the RRU unit in Lira says that the operation is aimed at reducing crimes levels in the town.

Omwaa says that most of the suspects who were picked have been on the police wanted list for various crimes.

Last month Raymond Otim, Lira District Police Commander intensified night police patrols in Lira town following a spate of robberies.
