A bus belonging to BTC Transporters has overturned in Nakasongola along the Gulu-Kampala Highway, killing three people and injuring several others.
Isaac Luvunia, the traffic officer in charge of Nakasongola Police Station identified two of the deceased as Ali Sempewa and 8-year-old boy Carlos Tumwine.
He said the third victim is yet to be identified.
The accident occurred today at around 2:30pm at Migera when the driver of the ill fated bus of registration number UAF 739 U, tried to dodge a heard of cows and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Luvunia blamed the accident on reckless driver on the part of the bus driver, who is still at large.
He said that during the accident the driver only identified as Asuman was talking on phone.
An eye witness who spoke to Uganda Radio Network on phone from the scene of the accident Pastor Sedra Okello said nine wounded passengers were rushed to Kiryandongo hospital in critical condition.
Patrick Akena, the Manager KOMTSE Bus Company which manages Gulu Bus Park said that Asuman told him on phone that he collided with another vehicle while trying to evade cows that were moving in the middle of the road.
Akena advised the relatives of the passengers to be calm as more details about the accident will be availed.
