The Eritrean government has accused Uganda of being used by the United States to impose sanctions against it.
Yesterday the United Nations Security Council approved an arms embargo and other tough sanctions against Eritrea. The embargo was imposed because Eritrea is accused of supplying weapons to the opponents of the Somali government and refusing to resolve a border dispute with neighboring Djibouti.
The resolution, which was prepared by Uganda, bans the import and export of weapons to Eritrea. It also calls on UN member states to inspect all suspect air and sea cargo between the Red Sea nation and Somalia.
