Jinja Residents Ask IGG to Investigate Land Allocations

Residents of Jinja municipality have petitioned the Inspector General of Government to intervene in the illegal allocations of land in the municipality.

Four concerned residents have written to the Inspector General of Government asking him to intervene and sort out the mess in land allocations in Jinja.

The residents accuse their political leaders of using their positions to grab land.

Michael Kasede, who is one of the concerned residents, accuses their leaders of exploiting weaknesses of their electorate to grab land.

Adnan Kawoya, the Deputy mayor Jinja Municipality blames the mess in the land allocation on greed amongst technical leaders. Kawoya accuses the technical officers of ignoring their advisory role for selfish interests.

Kawoya says that as a result of the illegal land transactions, Jinja municipality lacks land for expanding.

Aisha Nahabo, the district land officer who is accused of issuing illegal land titles has declined to comment on the matter.
