Fire has gutted Masaka Regional hospital Stores destroying property worth millions of shillings. The incident occurred last night at around 09pm.
David Nuwamanya, the hospital administrator who saw the fire says that, he saw a huge smoke coming out of the store near the antenatal clinic. He says that minutes later he heard an explosion, before fire spread to entire facility.
He says that store contained dental chairs, gas cylinders, compressors, old mattresses and over 60 old hospital beds amongst other items.
Nuwamanya explains that the hospital staff used fire extinguishers in vain, to put off the fire. He says that when the fire brigade team arrived it was too late to stop the fire.
Dr. Florence Tugumisirize, the Masaka hospital medical superintendent says that most of destroyed items where due for auctioning.
