KCC Sub Leases City Markets to Vendors

Business
Kampala City Council has granted a five year's sub lease to vendors in St Balikudembe and Kiseka markets.

Ruth Kijjambu, Kampala Town clerk says that KCC will extend the vendor's lease to 49 years when they present the market redevelopment plan.

The vendors will pay a premium of shillings 4 billion and 1.5 billion for the lease of St Balikudembe and Kiseka markets respectively.

Last week leaders of markets in Kampala met President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe and accused KCC of delaying to process their leases for the two markets.

Robert Kisembo Kasolo, chairman Nakivubo Road Old Kampala Market Vendors Ltd says that they will soon start redeveloping the market.

// Cue in: "It's a very .............
Cue out: ..........it's over now." //.

Adams Kakuba, secretary St. Balikudembe Market Stalls and Lock up Shops Owners Association says that they will mobilize all the vendors with the shortest time to plan for the development plant of the market.

// Cue in: Between six months ....
Cue out: ...ensure that we redevelop." //

Several vendors in Kiseka market broke up in wide jubilation when they heard that they had been granted the lease to redevelop the market. Buwembo Jingo, one of the vendors said he was happy that they had finally got the lease.

// Cue in: "We're happy .............................................
Cue out: .................................given us." //

Last year vendors of Kiseka market clashed with Police when they staged protests against KCC for delaying to process their lease.
