The East African Legislative Assembly is debating a Bill that will legalize the promotion of East Africa as a joint tourism destination.
Safina Kwekwe Tusngu, a Kenyan representative to the Legislative Assembly, says the Bill will bring into effect joint tourism marketing that is already in force in a loose for. She says it will provide structures for this marketing and will create the East Africa Tourism Fund to cover promotional costs.
//Cue in: "It will address ..." Cue out: "... concurrent structure."//
Tusngu explains that each of the five East African states will be required to make an annual contribution to the running of the East African Tourism Agency.
Margaret Zziwa , the Ugandan Representative to East African Legislative Assembly, says she hopes the new initiative will build local capacity to respond to tourist demands.
The World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2009, ranked Kenya highest in East Africa at 93 followed by Tanzania with Uganda emerging 111th position out 133 countries sampled.
