Pupils Stage Violent Strike

News
Pupils of Katentebere Islamic primary school in Fort Portal municipality have staged a strike to protest corporal punishment by their teachers.

The pupils went on rampage early yesterday when Poly Natukunda, a teacher allegedly fought a primary six pupil only identified as Farouk.

It is alleged that Natukunda boxed Farouk injuring him severely until he was rushed to Buhinga government hospital.

As a result, pupils went on rampage and ganged with area residents to beat up Natukunda.

The pupils also broke the windows of their classroom and school administration.

Natukunda was rescued by Rusoke Bunage, the LC III chairman of East Division who called in the police to disperse the angry residents and pupils.

Police fired several bullets in the air to disperse the mob.

Bunk Rusoke has condemned Natukunda for behaving unprofessionally, which he says could have cost his life.

He says that police has started investigating the incident to arrest all residents who participated in the pupil's riot.
