Four People Killed by Falling Tree in Mpigi

News
Four people were killed on Masaka Road yesterday evening when a huge tree fell on the taxi in which they were travelling. The ten others on board sustained serious injuries.

The accident occurred on the road through Kalandazi Forest in Mpigi, about 40 kilometers from Kampala.

Among the dead are Pastor Ivan Ssentongo, Pastor Paul Kyeswa, Sarah Nakazibwe and the taxi driver, Andrew Ntuulo.

George Twinobuhanizo, the officer in charge of traffic at Buwama Police Post, says the group was traveling for a burial at Mitala Maria in Masaka at the time of the accident. He says the tree, which was already dangerously into the road, was felled by heavy winds.

The injured have been taken to Mpigi Hospital. This morning, those with more severe injuries were rushed to Mulago.

All 14 on board the taxi were residents of Entebbe. The Mayor of Entebbe, Steven Kabuye, sent cars to transport the injured to hospital and the dead to Entebbe mortuary.
