Rowdy Mob Attacks Buseruka Police Post

Police have this morning fired several shots to disperse a mob attack on Buseruka police post.

The situation at Buseruka Police remained tense as a mob raided the police post demanding for the unconditional release of two suspects who are being detained for murder.

The suspects- Ibrahim Oyer, and Kassim Kabagambe, were arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the murder of a boda boda cyclist.

Kiiza Karoli, a boda boda cyclist operating at Buseruka trading center stage was killed on Tuesday night, by two passengers who hired him under the pretext they were traveling to Nyakabingo village.

The passengers however turned a knife on the boda boda cyclist and stabbed him in the neck killing him on the spot. Kiiza's killers then grabbed away his motorcycle but later abandoned it after it ran out of fuel.

Police was alerted about the incident and a quick search mounted leading to the arrest of the two men.

The suspects were then taken to Buseruka police post. But on learning about the arrest, the villagers backed with the relatives and friends of the deceased mobilized and set out to lynch the suspects.

Armed with cutlasses, bows and arrows, the group raided the police post this morning demanding for an unconditional release of Ibrahim Oyer and Kassim Kabagambe.

Zurah Ganyana, the Midwestern regional police publicist says, Police was forced to fire shots in the air to disperse the enraged mob. After dispersing the mob, anti-riot police was also deployed to protect the police post from further attacks.

The suspects were immediately whisked off to Hoima police station, amid tight security.

Romeo Ojara, the Acting Hoima district police commander, says a combined force of about 30 mobile police patrol Unit personnel and the army have been deployed to control the area.

Karoli's body was by press time still at the scene of murder.
