Floods Devastate Butaleja

Floods have left more than 70 families in Butaleja district homeless.

The floods on Wednesday were triggered off by a heavy downpour, which swept through Butaleja district.

The worst affected areas are Butaleja Sub County, Busubira, Makwasi, and Mabale villages in Himutu Sub County. Frances Walangira, the Butaleja sub county LC 3 chairman, says the rains lasted for more than five hours. Several houses were ripped off their roofing's and grass thatched huts were washed away,

The LC 3 chairman says the affected families are in urgent need of food shelter, and medicine.

Some people have taken refugee at Butesa primary school.
Richard Waya, the LC 5 chairman, says more than 300 families have over the past two weeks suffered the devastating effects of the floods.


Waya says there is an urgent need for humanitarian assistance to help those affected.
