Bishop John Baptist Kagwa of Masaka Diocese and the Diocesan Lands Secretary Joseph Male have been accused of grabbing land from a widow.
The two church leaders are accused of grabbing land from 85-year-old Irene Nakitto.
The 9-acre piece of disputed land is located at Butende Village in Mukungwe Sub County near Butende Technical institute.
The land is covered by a-4 acre eucalyptus forest reserve, which also belongs to Nakitto.
Nakitto claims that she inherited the disputed land from her late father Expedito Kalule who died in 1986.
Nakitto says that in 2001, Justice Julia Ssebutinde ruled in her favor after battling the church in court for 15 years over her land.
She says that Ssebutinde ordered the church to immediately vacate her land.
Nakitto says that instead of vacating her land Bishop Kaggwa and Joseph Male connived with Peter Kayita, the chairperson Masaka district Land Board to transfer her land into the names of Masaka catholic diocese.
Nakitto says that she was shocked when she took some men to buy her eucalyptus poles to raise money for her upkeep and found soldiers guarding her land.
She explains that the soldier chased her and told her never to step again on that piece of land because it belongs to Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa.
Nakitto also says when she went for her land title at Masaka district Land office; she found out that the title had been illegally transferred from her names to Masaka diocese.
Nakitto says that she wants Masaka diocese to vacate her land because she has partnered with Buganda Kingdom, which is planning to establish a hospital in the area.
Vincent Nyanzi, the State Minister for Economic monitoring who heads the probe team says he has written to Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa summoning him to explain why the diocese has refused to hand over the land to the old women.
Nyanzi says that he is shocked that the catholic priests who preach reconciliation and truth are involved in this.
// Cue in: " No body is above the laws..."
Cue in: "...to reconcile."//
Bishop Kaggwa has not yet commented on the matter as he was out office when URN visited his office Kitovu Cathedral.
Fr. Joseph Male, the Secretary Masaka diocesan land board has also declined to comment on the matter.
But Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Kamulegeya, the Butende Parish priest who deployed soldiers to stop Nakitto from accessing the forest reserve says Nakitto is insane.
