Kabarole Communities in Campaign to Renovate Cultural Sites

News
Several communities in Kabarole district have launched a massive cultural site renovation campaign.

The campaign stems from the realization that the Tooro Kingdom authorities have for long abandoned several cultural sites in Kabarole district.

For many years, such cultural sites as the Kings burial grounds have been left to waste. But community members say they can no longer sit and watch to see their cultural pride disappear.

More than 2.5 million shillings has so far been raised to renovate the burial grounds of King Kaboyo Omuhundwa and Olimi Nyika at Kagoma in Bunyagabu County.
The leaking roofs of the tombs have been replaced with grass. Several Trees have also been planted in the compound.

At Nyakigumba in Kisomoro Sub County, the community there is also renovating the tombs of Victoria Kahinju, Damalie Kabasweka and Kezia Byanjeru, the Queen Mothers of Toro.
The roofs of the tombs have also been replaced with grass and a fence has also been put round the tombs.
Ephraim Sabiti, the supervisor says several people have contributed money for the renovation.
