Police in Kanungu have been ordered to investigate the shoddy and rushed work on Government projects in the district.
The order by the Ethics and Integrity minister, James Nsaba Buturo, stems from an on spot assessment in which most projects were either found incomplete or reflected no value for money.
During a two-day tour of the district, Nasaba Buturo, wondered how the technical people charged with monitoring and evaluating government projects approved shoddy work.
All the projects visited were found complete and a certificate of completion given by the authorities.
The projects that police is expected to investigate include the 133 million shilling Ishasha Fish Market, which is already developing cracks, a theater at Kihiihi Health Center IV which was abandoned by Doctors because its roof is already curving in and Kijubwe bridge which cost Ushs 36 million but it has already broken down.
Dr. Buturo believes that some district leaders were involved in the shoddy work and has ordered a probe into their alleged involvement.
The RDC Kanungu told the minister that the district has recently been plagued with corruption. He said that district leaders including civil servants formed personal companies and influenced the Contracts committee in their quest for tenders.
Buturo warned that if found true, the civil servants would be charged by the anti-corruption court.
