Fresh Floods Displace 145 Families in Butaleja

News
Over 145 families were displaced by floods in Butaleja district over the weekend.

The most affected families are from Mazimasa and Nampologoma sub counties.

John Mutengo, the LC III chairman of Mazimasa Sub County says that the floods occurred on Saturday night after 5 hours of nonstop rains.

He says that most of the affected families have pitched camp at Kachonga primary school.

Mutengo says that the affected families are in need of urgent shelter, food and medicine.

Mutengo says that property worth millions of shillings and crop gardens were devastated by the floods.

He appeals to government to intervene and held the flood victims. This is the third flood to hit Butaleja, within a space of 2 months.

Richard Waya, the LC 5 Chairman says that more than 500 people have been displaced over the past two months.

Waya says that more people are likely to be displaced especially as the rains continue.

He says that the district disaster committee is soon convening to seek a way forward on the disaster.

Waya appeals to non governmental organizations to come to the aid of his affected electorate and provide medicine, shelter and food.
