Hunt on for Lunatics in Masindi

News
Police in Masindi have launched a massive crackdown on suspected lunatics.

The operation launched this morning stems from the rising public complaints about the increasing number of suspected lunatics on Masindi's streets.

Fourteen suspected lunatics, two of them women have been arrested and taken to Butabika mental hospital.

The suspected lunatics are Yoram Twizaba, Kitone Wilson, Susu Livingstone, Nakawadwa Nakawuka, Masumbuko Suleiman, Grace Nakayiza, Nyakoojo Willimka, Juma Musa and Ibrahim Oroma.

Tinka Zarugaba, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Masindi, says the authorities at Butabika hospital want relatives of the arrested people to help them investigate the mental status of the arrested people.

Joshua Amanyire, the Masindi Town council LC3 chairman, says many of the people rounded up may not be mentally retarded, as they appear or behave.

Last week, a mentally disturbed woman Sefuroza Turuhirwa from Kigulya village in Miirya subcounty hit his father in law, Daudi Nyakoojo and killed him.
