Four in Mukono Remanded for Murder

Crime
Four people have been remanded for their alleged inbvolvement in the murder of a three –year-old girl.

The suspects are John Sserwajjo, Agnes Namayanja Akware, Night Jenipher Bunyere and Jude Nakacho, all residents of Bugoba village in Nyenga sub county Buikwe district.

Prosecution told court this morning that the suspects on June 06th connived and killed Evera Madali, a three-year-old girl.

Evera madali daughter of Ronald Serwajjo and Rosemary Anyango residents of Bugoba village is alleged to have been a victim of a ritual sacrifice.

The girl's mother says that her baby was stolen from its grandparents, three days after she went to check on her sick relatives.

The baby's father on the other hand says she learnt about her daughter's death two days after her disappearance. He said that he was disappointed because he was confident that his parents would take good care of their grandchild.

Appearing before Mukono grade one magistrate Ruth Nabbasa, the suspects looked frightened and were not allowed to enter into plea because the offence is of capital nature.

Magistrate Nabbasa remanded them until July 13, 2010 when they will reappear in court for mention.

A young girl who is a member of the family told Police that Madali was picked from her bedroom at 11:00pm by her grandmother, and asked her to accompany her to the shrine outside the house and she did not return to the house.

Police later discovered a freshly dug grave coated with blood outside the shrine where she is believed to have been killed. The deceased's body was discovered dumped at the shores of Lake Victoria in Bugobi with a hole in her left armpit.

Following her death, a mob went on rampage destroying all the shrines, leaving the village's traditional worshipers without temples.

Police in Buikwe District arrested six people including the child's grand parents to help in the investigations.

The area LCIII chairperson, Sam Lwanga says none of the suspects arrested would ever be allowed to return to the village.
