Work has grounded to a halt in Budaka Town Council as a result of lack of funds.
Martin Mulekwa, Budaka Town Clerk says that district is illegally holding on shillings 13 million released for the town council activities.
He says that the money was meant for the payment of town council workers salaries and waste management amongst others.
Mulekwa however says that the delay by the district authorities to transfer the money into the town council accounts is causing complications.
He says that some workers are already threatening to stage a strike unless they are paid immediately.
Patrick Namenkere, the senior Budaka Town Council treasurer says that they are now stranded because of lack of funds.
Namenkere says that they are trying to negotiate with the district to speed up the transfer of funds.
Elias Byamungu, Budaka chief Administrative Officer says that the town council owed the district shillings 13 million that was recovered from their June release.
He says that after deducting the shillings 13 Million they transferred shilling 600,000 to town council accounts.
Byamungu advices the town council authorities to desist from blackmail because they are being investigated by the Inspectorate of Government for financial mismanagement.
