Tanzanian Witchdoctor Arrested over Ritual Murder

News
Police in Rakai have arrested a Tanzanian witchdoctor in connection to the ritual murder of 3-year-old Martin Mukiibi.

The suspect has been identified as 67-year-old John Balinda, a resident of Bisanje village in Kabira Sub County in Rakai.

Balinda was picked up yesterday from his shrine in Makindye division in Kampala and transferred to the southern regional police headquarters in Masaka.

Noah Serunjogi, the Southern region Police spokesman says that Balinda is wanted for the ritual murder of Mukiibi.

He says that the suspects cut off Mukiibi's genitals, tongue and the heart leading to the minor's death.

Serunjogi says that Balinda will be presented to court for prosecution because his file has already been sanctioned by the resident state attorney.

Hadijah Namugaba says that her grandson Mukiibi disappeared from home on June 30, 2010.

She says that his mutilated body was later discovered in maize garden about 300 meters from her home.

According to Namugaba, Mukiibi was taken away from her house by Baker Muhwezi, who was working for her.

Police records indicate that over six ritual murders have been recorded in the southern region since the beginning of this year.
