Kalangala Authorities Call Off Search for Bodies of Lake Victoria Boat Accident

News
Authorities in Kalangala have suspended the search of for the bodies of fishermen killed on Lake Victoria yesterday.

More than 30 fishermen are believed to have drowned yesterday when their boat was hit by a strong storm at Nsanze in Bubeke Sub County.

The fishermen were traveling from Kiku and Lwazi landing sites in Bubeke Sub County in Kalangala to Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe.

Only four bodies of the boat accident victims were recovered yesterday.

Eddie Sebatta, the Bubeke Sub county LC3 chairman says that they have suspended the search for the remaining bodies because of a violent storm blowing across the lake.

Sebatta says that they hope to resume the search tomorrow when the storm reduces.

Stephen Asiimwe, Kalangala fisheries officer says he suspects all the bodies to come to the surface by Friday morning.

He explains that when a person drowns in water, they tend to sink deep and then reappear after all the blood has been consumed by the water.
