High government officials have been implicated in a plot to grab 5 acres of land belonging to Kitgum hospital.
The implicated officials include Ministers Hilary Onek and Henry Okello Oryem and the interdicted Kitgum Town Clerk, George Ocien.
Others are Naman Ojwee, former Kitgum District Chairperson, Mark Okeny, Alex Odongtho Tabu and Richard Canfua.
Dr. Alex Layoo, the Medical Superintendent of Kitgum Hospital says that the contested land was illegally parceled out to the officials in 2005.
Layoo says that they have tried in vain to reclaim the hospital land yet they want to carry out expansions.
He claims that they hired a contractor to fence off the land but he abandoned the work after receiving death threats from the interested parties.
Layoo says that he reported the matter to area Resident District Commissioner to provide security to the contractor to fence off the land but they have not received any response.
//Cue in: "We are suspicious
Cue out: ...is our worry"//
Layoo says that the hospital management has no option but to wait for he decision from the district leadership.
Hilary Onek, the energy minister denies any wrong doing. Onek claim that his land was allocated to him by the Kitgum district land board.
Onek has threatened to take legal action against any body who dare accuses him of grabbing Kitgum hospital land.
But John Ogwok Komakech, Kitgum LC V chairperson says the disputed land belongs to hospital.
He says that district leadership is determined to protect the hospital land for expansion.
In 2006, Kitgum district set up a probe committee to investigate the illegal disposal Kitgum hospital land.
The probe committee discovered that the district land board was involved in the allocation of Kitgum hospital land to private developers.
The committee recommended that the land be returned under the hospital management and be fenced off for future use.
