Several leaders in Masaka district including Edward Ssekandi, the Speaker of parliament have been implicated in illegal grabbing of school land.
The implicated officials are Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, the MP Bukoto Central, Vincent Ssempijja, the Masaka LC5 chairman, David Kawoya, Masaka Municipal Education officer, Fr. Peter Kayitta, the Masaka District Land Secretary among others.
The land in question is located on Bwala hill and it belongs to Bwala Public School. The disputed land is home to the school play ground and teachers quarters.
In May this year, the school management was shocked to discover that some unknown people had fenced off the school land and had started putting up private structures.
In response, the school management committee headed by Dr Peter Jjumba, started investigating the people who illegally bought the school land without consulting them.
According to the findings, several leaders illegally bought the school land. Sadam Tamale, one of the probe team members says each one of the named officials owns a sizeable plot.
Tamale, also a former pupil at this school says they are now going to handle over the list to higher authorities to investigate circumstances under which each one acquired the land.
Tamale has also accused the implicated leaders of greed.

Cue out: "...protect what we found safe."//
Several implicated officials could not be reached for a comment. But David Kawoya, the Masaka Municipal education officer among the accused has denied. He says the land was sold legally because the lease for that school land had expired after 49year.
He does not however explain why the occupants of the land, the school were never consulted. In the meantime, FDC leaders in Masaka are planning a massive demonstration over the illegal sale of plots in Masaka.
