Balaam Byarufu, the UPC Chairman for Hoima District, has been killed by a thunder strike.
Byarufu in his late 60s was struck dead by lightening on Friday evening at his home in Western Ward Busiisi division Hoima municipality.
Romeo Ojara, the Hoima police Officer, says Byarufu met his death during the afternoon rain drizzles. Ojara says a lightening sparkle cut through his window killing him on the spot.
The thunder strike threw the deceased a few meters away from his courtyard and sustained deep cuts in the head.
Sunny Byarufu his wife, two daughters Stella Nyangoma and Jacqueline Atuhura who were tapping water, survived with shock. They were rushed to Kabalega Medical center in Hoima town in a state of unconscious.
Solomon Businge, a clinical officer attending to the three survivors, says their condition has improved and that they could be discharged soon.
Byarufu is a retired civil servant who had served as treasurer Arua district local government for years.
Besides being the UPC Chairman for Hoima, he had also tried a game at politics when he vied for the Bugahya county parliamentary seat on UPC ticket in the 2006 elections.
He will be laid to rest at his home in Busiisi later today.
