Hoima Women Leaders Protest Exclusion from NRM District Executive

Politics
20 women leaders in Hoima have petitioned the NRM Electoral Commission complaining of non representation on the newly elected district party leadership.

The women leaders including councilors yesterday handed their petition to Erifazi Kiiza Rujumba, the NRM administrative secretary.

They argue that the exclusion of woman on the party executive breaches the NRM constitution, which provides for 40 percent gender representation.

The women are demanding that the NRM electoral commission nullifies the result of the district executive committee and organize fresh elections.

The Hoima District NRM committee is chaired by Henry Muganwa Kajura, third deputy premier; Tom Kyahurwenda is his deputy, while the secretary is Yunus Mugabe.

But the women insist that one of the members of the committee should be a woman.

Erifazi Kiiza Rujumba, the NRM district administrative secretary has promised to follow up on the matter. He says the elections could be repeated once errors are found.
