Soroti Forms Vigilantee Groups to quash Demonstrations

News
A local council chairperson in Soroti Municipality has formed a vigilante group to fight criminal gangs blamed for staging demonstrations.

Suleiman Ganim, the LCI of cell G in central ward, says the vigilante group will provide back up support to police in its efforts to quell demonstrations.

The formation of the vigilante group stems from a foiled demonstration last week, in which a group of muslims were protesting against what they described as persecution of muslims.

The demo was organized by Abdul Karim Akbar, following the arrest of some people for their alleged involvement in terrorism.

But Ganim, who is also a Muslim, says the demo was baseless. He adds that he is not ready to sit and watch as criminal gangs threaten to destabilize the prevailing security in Soroti town.
