A case in which five former officials of the electoral commission are accused of misappropriation of close to one billion shillings has been handed over to the anti corruption court.
The five suspects are Andrew Muwonge the former secretary, Eflance Kiwanuka, former Ag secretary, and Ssalongo David Kanakulya, the former head of finance.
The others are Susan Wanume, former senior assistant officer and Aida Nankumba, ex assistant electoral officer).
The suspects were dragged to Court in October 2001 and charged with four counts of causing financial loss amounting to more than 99 million shillings.
The case has been dragging on until today when Vincent Mugabo, the Buganda Road court Chief Magistrate, decided to refer the case to the Anti-corruption court.
According to the records before Court, three witnesses had testified against the accused persons.
Court heard that the accused persons being employed by the Commission approved payment of Shs36, million shillings to the Chief Administrative Officer Iganga and more than 33 million shillings to the Mbale Chief Administrative Officer, based on false document.
