President Museveni has ordered the striking lecturers at Makerere University, to call off their strike.
The President who met the MUASA team this afternoon promised to pay them and ordered them to call off the strike.
President Yoweri Museveni who met the University staff as earlier today blamed the National Insurance Corporations for holding the university money without a contract.
He says there contract expired in 2005, and promised to deal with the NIC managers after government has processed the payments.
He says the money shall be deposited on MUASA accounts within three months. President Museveni also ordered the auditor general to help Makerere staff in compiling the actual figures being demanded from NIC.
He says the strike is affecting the innocent students and the parents.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairman MUASA says recommended the president for realizing that NIC was illegally holding their money.
Dr. Tanga has called for an immediate General Assembly and is hopeful the staff shall resume teaching.
MUASA declared a sit down strike on Monday, demanding for 17.7 billion shillings in pension arrears from the National Insurance Corporation.
The money accumulated between 1996 and 2005.
