14 cops in Iganga accused of stealing good worth shillings 150 million from a transit truck have been remanded to Iganga prisons.
The suspects appeared today before Elina Khayinza, Iganga Grade One magistrate.
Three of the suspects are Gaudencio Okumu, Iganga District Police Commander, Emmanuel Oyesse, the officer in charge of Nakalama Police post and Odongo, the officer in charge of Kasolo outpost.
The 14 cops were charged with theft along six civilians.
Prosecution told court that on August 21, 2010, the suspects looted goods worth shillings 150 million belonging to Godfrey Serunjoji from a truck that broke down at Nabusale village along Iganga Tororo highway.
According to prosecution the suspects stole mattresses, television sets, computers, clothes and other personal effects.
The items were recovered from the homes of police officers with the help of Jinja police.
However, all the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded to Iganga prison by, Elina Khayinza, Iganga Grade One magistrate.
