The community in Buheesi Sub County in Kabarole district has started an initiative of renovating poor infrastructure in their area.
The communities are renovating village roads, health centres II and boreholes.
Buheesi Community Association, an association of residents hailing from Buheesi Sub County, started this initiative three months ago. The association has 550 members.
At Buheesi Health Center II, the residents have replaced the leaking iron sheets with new ones. Men and women can be seen clearing the bush in front of the health center and painting the walls.
Geoffrey Mugenyi, a nursing assistant at the health center says that since last year, the district has been promising to renovate the health center.
20 kilometers from the health center, some residents of Nyamitoma village are digging trenches on the side of the road that leads to the health center. When it rains, the road floods and it is impassable. They are also constructing boreholes that had broken down.
Richard Gumisiriza, the chairperson of Buheesi Community Association, says the residents's decision to renovate their own infrastructure, stems from the increasing poor infrastructure.
Gumisiriza says that each member of the association contributes money to facilitate the renovations.
He also says that the residents cannot wait for the district to renovate the infrastructure because they are tired of the empty promises from the district.

Cue out: "...they give us empty promises."//
Doreen Kahigwa, a resident of Buheesi trading center says since the renovations started last month, no local leader has supervised the renovations or contributed resources to renovate the infrastructure.
David Mugenyi, the Secretary for Works Kabarole district says that the district was aware of the poor infrastructure in the sub county but it lacked resources to fund the renovations.
Mugenyi says that the district is allocated 500 million shillings to renovate roads and some health centers in rural areas.
