Police Fails to Produce Killers of Masaka Journalist in Court

Crime
Police has failed to produce in court seven men suspected to have been part of the mob that lynched Paul Kiggundu, a journalist with Top Radio.

The suspects are Gerald Buberwa, Godfrey Katumba, Joseph Lubega, Peter Kalaveri, Sunday Ibrahim, Siraje Kawoya and Siraje Mulelwa.

They were expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning before Kalisizo Grade I Magistrate Doreen Ajona but they were not produced by Police. Ajona who looked surprised left court in an unpleasant mood.

Rose Nabakooza, the head of the special police team probing the matter says that they were unable to produce the suspects in court because of lack of transport. Nabakooza says that the suspects will be arraigned in court tomorrow.

Journalists who stormed the courtroom from morning left frustrated when police failed to produce the suspects. The failure to bring the suspects to court comes at a time when the South Buganda Journalists association is organizing a peaceful demonstration to protest the killing of Kiggundu.

Sadab Kitatta, the coordinator of South Buganda Journalists Association (SOBUJA) says police have pledged maximum security during the demonstration scheduled on Friday this week.

Kiggundu was lynched by a mob three weeks ago while on duty at Nkenge in Nabigasa Sub County.
