Three men have been arrested in Bugiri for robbery and staging an illegal roadblock. The suspects are Moses Mugeni, Richard Wafula and Moses Mpango all motorcyclists from Namayingo district.
The trio is accused of staging an illegal road block along Namayingo – Mutungo road on Monday morning. They allegedly robbed 10 fish mongers of shillings 1.3 million, 8 mobile phones and shillings 1.3 million.
Samson Lubega, South Eastern regional police spokes person says that the suspects waylaid a lorry registration number UAL 933D, which usually transports fish from Bumeeru landing site in Namayingo.
He says that the suspects who were armed with spears and sticks placed huge rocks, and logs in the road to block the lorry before they robbed the traders.
Godfrey Lwasa, Bumeeru, Local council one defense secretary says that after staging the robbery the suspects tried to flee the scene but were arrested by residents.
He says that the suspects were found hiding two kilometers from Bumeeru trading centre on the shores of Lake Victoria. The three will be presented in court in Bugiri to answer charges of robbery and threatening violence.
