Cattle rustlers in Moroto have shot dead a woman and burned her three children alive.
The incident happened last night at about 11.30pm.in Morulinga village. The village is about six kilometers away from the Morulinga Presidential Lodge.
The dead are Mary Makoroi and her children Lote Asukwai, Locoro Lolako and Abura Lokwi.
Captain Deo Akiiki, spokesperson of the UPDF 3rd Division, says the murder was carried out by a group of Matheniko cattle rustlers fleeing from a botched raid in Bokora County. He says the retreating warriors attempted to loot the home of Peter Loleta, but he fought them off, injuring one of them with a spear.
In retaliation, the cattle rustlers turned their anger on Loleta's wife, Mary Makoroi and her children. Loleta fought hard to save his family, but he was outnumbered.
Captain Akiiki says the hunt for the cattle rustlers is on. He vows that the UPDF will do everything within its power to bring them to book.
