Norbert Mao, Gulu LC5 chairman has been accused of abandoning the district office to pursue his presidential ambitions. Mao was recently elected as Democratic Party flag bearer for the 2011 elections.
He immediately launched a countrywide tour to mobilize support for his election bid as Democratic Party flag bearer across the country. Mao is currently touring West Nile to drum support for his candidature.
However, Mao's dream to secure the country's top political seat is costing his electorate in Gulu, who voted him to the office of the LC V chairman. Makmot Kitara, the vice LC V chairman says that Mao is spending a lot of time out of his office, which has created a vacuum.
He says as a result service delivery in the district has been affected forcing him to apologize to the voters because he is overwhelmed with responsibility.
On top of being the LC5 chairperson, Mao also doubles as the district secretary for administration and finance. Makmot says that because of Mao's absence they have failed to pass the motion creating 6 new sub counties among the things.
Mao who is reported to be in West Nile on a consultation tour could not be reached o phone to respond to the accusations. The electoral commission has set October 25 and 26 as the dates for nominating presidential candidates for the 2011 elections before campaigns commence on November 1st.
