Police in Kasese have arrested a 40-year-old man for alleged murder.
Eriya Bwambale, of Kinyateke village in Lake Katwe sub-county Kasese district, is accused of murdering his three children. He allegedly committed the heinous crime on July 24th 2009.
The children who died in the inferno are Joachim Bwambale, Mary Ithungu and George Masereka. The fourth child escaped with severe injuries and was rushed to Kagando hospital in Kisinga sub-county.
Silver Tumwesigye, the criminal investigations officer, says Bwambale torched his house killing three of the four occupants, all of whom were his children. He allegedly burnt the house following an argument with his wife.
Police has found out that Bwambale's initial plan was to burn his wife inside, but the woman was swift to escape living her children behind.
Bwambale fled into hiding in the Democratic Republic where he has been living until October 9th this year when he was arrested.
He was arrested from Mpondwe- Lhubiriha town council, while trying to sneak back to Congo after attending the burial of his nephew.
On interrogation, Bwambale denied the charges and instead accused his wife of being responsible for the incident.
He told police that he fled to Congo for fear of mob justice from the angry neighbors who attacked and allegedly injured him in the back.
Investigations into the incident are underway.
