China Lends Uganda UShs 200b for Road Maintenance

The government of China will lend Uganda 100 million dollars an equivalent of 200 billion dollars for upgrading and maintaining roads.

A press statement issued by the works and transport ministry this morning states that the money is an addition to the 259 billion shillings the government has budgeted for fixing and resealing 5,650 kilometers.

The statement adds that At least 2,000 kilometers of district roads will be rehabilitated, 3,500 kilometers will receive periodic maintenance, and 150 kilometers of city roads will be resealed under the program.

Statistics from the works ministry show that Uganda has a backlog of 10,000 kilometers of roads that it plans to fix over the next five years.
