News
Police in Sembabule district have arrested a UPDF cadet, for alleged theft.

Matia Katambula, a UPDF cadet at Kabamba Military training school in Mubende district was arrested by intelligence officers from Mubende and is being detained at Sembabule district central police.

He is wanted in connection with the disappearance of more than 15million shillings from a micro finance bank in Sembabule town council.

Katambula's arrest stems from a warrant of arrest, which was issued by the Sembabule grade one magistrate Kule Lubangula, on 28th August 2010.

The summons against Katambula was in response to findings from an investigations showing that Katumbula who once served a loans officer at Sembabule microfinance bank swindled more than 15million shillings.

Police also found out that the suspect sold land that belonged to the bank clients using the land titles that were presented to the bank as security. He allegedly committed the offence between 2008 and 2009.

Steven Tanui, the Ssembabule district police commander, says more than 30 clients of the micro finance bank have cases against Katumbula accusing him of illegal sale of their land.

The complainants include Deus Museveni, a resident of Mpummudde village in Lyantonde district, John Kapere of Lwebitakuli sub-county and Richard Tumwesigye of Lugusulu subcounty in Sembabule district.

On learning that he was on the list of the most wanted persons, Katambula decided to join the army and has since been training at Kabamba military training school.

The DPC says that the suspect will be produced in court shortly to answer charges of embezzlement and obtaining money by false pretense.
