A student at St Francis Vocational Technical School, in Dokolo district has been killed in a fight over food.
Patrick Okwir died on Sunday shortly after his friend Jimmy Okot slapped him on the head.
Faustino Okurut, the criminal investigations officer, says that, the incident happened on Sunday.
Preliminary investigations show that prior to his death, Okwir had an argument with Okot over food.
The nature of argument is not clear, but reports from the school show that tension between the two boy remained high until the students returned to the dormitory from where Okot allegedly slapped him on one side of the head.
Okurut says that Okwir lost consciousness and was rushed to Dokolo health center where he died a few hours later.
A medical report from Dokolo Health Center states that Okwir's tissues got ruptured and blood flowed to the brain leading to his sudden death.
Police have preferred a charge of murder against the student.
Henry Alyanga, the mid northern region police spokesperson, says Okot's family is trying to negotiate an out of court settlement with the family of the deceased student.
He explained that while the police was not taking part in the negotiation, it would honor its outcome.
