Agrey Natuhamya, a loser of the NRM primary elections in Kibaale yesterday bowed out of the parliamentary nomination exercise because of pressure from his party. In August, Natuhumya contested the NRM primary election for the Kibaale County seat and lost to Frank Tumwebaze, the incumbent Member of Parliament.
Natuhumya rejected the poll results and declared his intention to contest as an independent. He booked the nomination date and paid shillings 200,000 as nomination fees.
Yesterday, Natuhumya failed to show up for the nomination as he was locked up in a meeting with members of a reconciliation team appointed by President Yoweri Museveni, the NRM party chairman.
The team, led by Alimpa Kigyagyi, Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament convinced Natuhumya to give up his ambition in favor of Frank Tumwebaze. Speaking to URN shortly after the meeting, Natuhumya said that he decided to bow out of the parliamentary race for the good of the party.
The withdrawal of Natuhumya from the parliamentary race now leaves Frank Tumwebaze and James Ozoo Birungi, the FDC candidate. Ozoo who was nominated yesterday has pledged to revive the past glory of Kibaale County, and the entire Kamwenge district.
