A UPDF soldier attached to the 5th division has been killed in clashes between the Turkana and Matheniko warriors at Kotein near the Uganda/Kenya border.
The soldier whose identities have been withheld pending notification of his kith and kin died on Sunday night.
Lt. Caesar Olweny, the 5th Division Spokesman, says the soldier was part of a group of soldiers who were tracking more than 120 heads of cattle that were by the Kenyan Turkana from a kraal in Nakapelimoru in Kotido district.
During the trail a shootout ensued between the UPDF and the warriors.
The Spokesman said the soldier was seriously injured and died while being rushed back to base for medical attention.
Lt. Olweny says one warrior and five cows also died in the shootout, while nine other animals were injured.
He said the raid at Nakapelimoru was a retaliatory attack by the Turkana following a raid of their livestock by Jie warriors of Kotido last week.
The UPDF had earlier managed to recover 291 heads of the raided cattle and goats.
But the Turkana warriors struck before the animals could be handed back.
