Weak system of Justice turning petty offenders into hardcore criminals says, Chief Justice Odoki

Crime
The Chief Justice of Uganda Benjamin Odoki says, that the delay in disposing off cases has led to more hardcore criminals being groomed in the prisons.

Odoki told a Justice, Law and Order sector annual review meeting in Munyonyo today, that the system of disposing off cases is still very slow and condemning many petty offenders to longer stay in prisons.

He said that the Director of Public Prosecution should review and withdraw all cases against prisoners on remand. He says that prisoners on remand should be set free.

Justice Odoki notes that prisons should be used as centers for prisoner rehabilitation and not for grooming new criminals.
