Toro Kingdom Loyalists Want Oyo to Address Kingdom Conflicts

News
Loyalists of Toro Kingdom want King Oyo Kabamba Iguru to use the festive season address the conflicts in the Kingdom.

King Oyo will celebrate the festive season at his palace at the Karuzika hill in Fort Portal town. This is his first visit in his kingdom since assuming full authority eight months ago.

The King has been away from the kingdom since June pursuing his studies in the United Kingdom.

However as he arrives in the kingdom tomorrow, there are conflicts in the kingdom which resulted from the sacking of William Nyakatura as Prime Minister.

The kingdom offices were closed, the kingdom speaker resigned, there is no supreme council because its term of office expired and there are conflicts on who should manage the kingdom land in the absence of the king.

Some kingdom loyalists now want Oyo to use this opportunity while in the kingdom to resolve the conflicts.

Daniel Hakiza, a resident of Harukoto in Fort Portal town says that it is unfortunate that the King will celebrate the festive amidst conflicts. Hakiza says that the King should not go back for studies before intervening in the conflicts.

He also says that the king should listen to both parties in the conflict and neutral people should give him advice on how to address the conflicts.

Winnie Nyangoma says that Oyo should appoint regents who will administer the kingdom on his behalf while he is away. Nyangoma says that the main cause of conflicts in the kingdom is the struggle for power and resources when the king is away.

Steven Nyamutale, the chairperson of the kingdom clan council, says that they want to meet the king and tell him about the causes of the conflicts which he should address.

Nyamutale says the issues they want Oyo to address include the election of new members of the kingdom parliament, approval of the prime minister, the illegal sale of the kingdom land and assumption of power by some individuals in the kingdom.

//Cue in: "we have a number of issues..."
Cue out: "...when we meet him."//

Nyamutale however says that if the King refuses to meet the council does not address the issues raised, they will have no option but pursue the conflicts in courts of law.

//Cue in: "you have to prepare a fall back position..."
Cue out: "...seek court verdict."//

In November, Justice Winyi Dollo urged the factions in the kingdom to settle the conflicts out of court. This was after four members of the clan council sued the king for illegally sacking William Nyakatura the kingdom premier.

Arthur Namara, the Minister of Information Toro Kingdom doubts whether that the King will meet members of the clan council. He says that a memorandum on issues they want the King to address has not yet been presented to Oyo.

Attempts by Uganda Radio Network to get a comment from Oyo were futile after the Queen Mother Best Kemigisa refused.

Kemigisa says that there is a deliberate plot to tarnish her and Oyo's image in the media.
