Kamwenge LC5 Candidate Withdraws from Race

Election
Another election candidate in Kamwenge district has pulled out of the race.

George Mugisha Ndegyezeho, a candidate for the LC5 chair, says he has withdrawn from the elections in favor of the NRM candidate, Robert Kamasaka.

The leaves Kamasaka as the sole candidate for the seat.

Ndegyezeho, who was nominated as an independent candidate, says his decision was made out of loyalty to the ruling party. He calls on all NRM supporters to rally behind Kamasaka.

Ndegyezeho's campaign team says the withdrawal was the result of a meeting with President Museveni on Christmas Eve.

This is the latest turnaround in Kamwenge's politics.

Shortly before the end of parliamentary nominations last year, Aggrey Natuhamya a candidate for the Kibaale County parliamentary seat withdrew from the contest. Natuhamya, the county's former Inspector of Schools, surprised his supporters by suddenly pulling out and leaving the race up to two people – the incumbent MP Frank Tumwebaze and James Ozzo Birungi of the Forum for Democratic Change.
