Cop in Trouble Over Shillings 50,000 Bribe

Crime
Patrick Atunyo, a cop attached to Mbale Central Police Station is in trouble for soliciting a bribe of shillings 50,000. Atunyo was arrested today by operatives from the Police Standards Units-PSU, while receiving the bribe from a complainant.

Diana Nandawula, Eastern Region Police spokesperson says that trouble for Atunyo started when a woman whose identities she didn't disclose was beaten by a dog and she opened a case at Mbale Central Police Station.

Nandawula explains that the woman later changed her mind and wanted to withdraw the case but Atunyo asked her for a bribe of shillings 50,000. She says that the woman immediately registered a complaint against Atunyo at the PSU complaints desk in Mbale and a trap was set for the cop.

Nandawula explains that the PSU operatives gave the woman shillings 50,000 and asked her to give it to Atunyo before they sprung into action. According to Nandawula they had received several complaints of professional misconduct against Atunyo. She explains that Atunyo will appear before the police disciplinary committee for appropriate action.
