Desire Osborn Kayima, the FDC parliamentary candidate in Rakai district ,has been hospitalized, after falling victim to Mukono iron bar hit men.
Kayima is contesting for Kooki constituency seat. He was on Saturday admitted at Kawolo hospital after he was allegedly beaten by a gang of iron bar hitmen near Katosi landing site in Mukono district.
Denis Muyunga, the Rakai district FDC chairman, says Kayima was attacked on Saturday evening , beaten into comma and later dumped in the in the nearly by bush.
Muyunga explains that Kayima got phone call from his driver identified as John Kintu, to go and pick his money in Mukono. He explains that when he reached Mukono, Kato asked him to get onto the truck and drive to Katosi when he was allegedly keeping his money.
Muyunga however says Kato all of a sudden stopped the vehicle disguising as if it had broken down. Minutes after stopping, unknown iron bar hitmen jumped from the bush and started clobbering him. He says Kayima sustained serious injuries on the face, hands and by Sunday night, he was still under intensive care at Kawolo hospital.
Frank Lumanyika, Kayima's relative says the victim is still admitted at Kawolo hospital. He says he can hardly talk, and walk due to the injuries he sustained. He says he reported the matter to Lugazi police but up to now police has not helped them arrest the key suspects.
He alleges that when he reached Lugazi central police on Sunday, instead of hurrying up to arrest John Kato, a key suspect; they told him they have no money for fuel.
Caroline Akoth, the Buikwe DPC has refused to speak to URN reporter on phone. She said she cannot speak to URN on phone because she is not sure whether she is speaking with a genuine journalist or not.
Ngura Jackie, the Rakai district returning officer, says she has instructed the FDC party to lodge a formal complaint. She says this is the first case of violence against a candidate in Rakai district.
Kayima is contesting against Mugumya Magulumaali, an independent candidate, Amos Mandela, NRM candidate, John Kasiiba, independent candidate and Ali Barekye also independent candidate.
