Police Arrests Quack Doctor In Masaka

Police in Masaka have arrested a 40-year-old man for prescribing poisonous herbal medicine to a resident in Nyendo trading center.

Fred Mukasa, a resident of Kayirikiti zone in Nyendo/Senyange division in Masaka municipality, was arrested shortly after a tip off by the relatives of Abdul Mugula who was poisoned.

Mugula, a dry cleaner in Mukudde zone in Nyendo, was given a herbal concoction purportedly for the treatment of ulcers.

But on taking the herbs, Mugula developed lost his consciousness and was rushed to Kitovu hospital. A diagnosis found out that he had taken a poisonous substance.

Mugula's relatives rushed back to the herbalist, grabbed him and handed him over to the police in Nyendo.

Obedi Tumuramye, the criminal investigations officer, says the suspect will be charged with administering poison to another person with intent to harm.

He said that herbs from Mukasa would be taken to the government chemists for examination.
